Enterprise AI Integration Platform
Challenge
As organisations adopt AI-powered platforms such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Azure AI Foundry Agents, integration patterns can quickly become fragmented. Different MCP servers often require their own onboarding, authentication and governance processes. The objective was to design and validate a reusable enterprise architecture pattern that centralises governance, simplifies onboarding and provides a scalable foundation for future AI initiatives.
Approach
- ✓ Designed and implemented a reusable Enterprise MCP Gateway pattern using Azure API Management
- ✓ Centralised MCP onboarding and governance through a single enterprise integration layer
- ✓ Validated the architecture using Microsoft Copilot Studio as the initial AI consumer
- ✓ Designed the solution to support future consumers including Microsoft 365 Copilot and Azure AI Foundry Agents
- ✓ Standardised access to MCP tools irrespective of vendor authentication models
- ✓ Implemented dedicated App Registrations for each MCP provider integration
- ✓ Created a central client-facing App Registration supporting OAuth 2.0 authentication for AI consumers
- ✓ Abstracted provider-specific authentication and authorization requirements through Azure API Management
Outcome
Successfully demonstrated a reusable Enterprise MCP Gateway architecture that centralises governance and simplifies AI integration onboarding. The solution enabled multiple AI consumers to securely access MCP providers through a governed integration layer while supporting different authentication models and security requirements. The pattern provides a scalable foundation for future enterprise AI initiatives and reduces the effort required to onboard new MCP servers and AI applications.
